Hi guys! A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure to visit Amsterdam. I’ve already posted about the WestCord Fashion Hotel Amsterdam, and I now want to present you my 10-Things-to-Do in Amsterdam. If you want to read about my post about the WestCord Fashion Hotel Amsterdam, you can click »HERE
Amsterdam has so many attractions and is one of the most popular cities to visit in Europe. Holland is also known for legalized Cannabis, but has so much more to offer! My first trip was brilliant and I can’t wait to go back!
- Canal Cruise
Take a few hours and book a Canal Cruise through Amsterdam. If you’re at the main station, you can find a lot of options to book a tour. We paid 18 EUR per person for our ticket and the tour was about 2 hours long.
- Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum is awesome for art-enthusiasts. This is the biggest collection with his work (roughly. 200 Canvases und 400 Paintings). The museum has about 1.5 Million Visitors a year, 85% from foreign countries.
- Heineken Experience
This attraction is like a tourist magnet. The tour is about 2 hours long and includes a lot of activities, two free beers. and a souvenir. It costs 19 Euro.
- Coffeeshops
If you’re in Holland, visit a coffee shop. You can buy tiny amounts of Haschisch in Coffeeshops, you can also smoke it there, eat brownies or drink tea. This is legal in Holland. I’ll blog about this seperately.
- Red-Light District
Just like in Hamburg, Amsterdam is known for its Red-Light District. We didn’t want to miss it and we took a walk throught the Red-Light District. We were there before 8pm, so we didn’t so much. The “shop windows” were still empty and we avoided the peepshows. It was still interesting to see everything.
- Blumenkart – Flower Market
You can’t miss the flower market if you’re in Amsterdam. It’s open seven days a week and almost 365 days a year. You can buy tulips – sometimes 5 EUR for 50 tulips! There are also souvenirs like tulip bulbs, magnets, wooden shoes, t-shirts, hats.
- Vondelpark
We had awesome weather on the first day. That’s why we took a walk through the Vondelpark. The park is beautiful and perfect for nature fans. I alread blogged about the Vondelpark. If you want to read about it, click »HERE
I think it’s great if big cities have a park as a place of refuge like NYC’s Central Park. Since it was really cold, we were not able to visit an open air concert. But the park still has its charm when it’s cold outside. If you’re lucky, you can watch green parrots. This is a Must-See in Amsterdam! Lisa P.
- Streetmarkets
Shopping at the markets is a special event. It’s colorful, there is Live-Music, deals and cool & cheap Souvenirs. The most known market of the city is on the Waterlooplein. You can buy Secondhand-Clothes, CD’s, DVD’s.
- Eat yourself through Amsterdams Kitchen
You have to try the typical dutch dishes, when you’re in Amsterdam. For example ‘Hollandse Nieuwe’. This is Raw herring with onions and cucumber. I think I wouldn’t be able to eat this! But there are tons of other things!
- Stroopwafel – 2 Waffles which are glued together with sweet syrup.
- Poffertjes – fluffy Pancakes with Butter and powdered sugar.
- Kroket – Croquettes with ground meat.
- Kaas – Gouda and Edamer.
