A GPS – with New Software
Very important. Before your road trip you should get a GPS. If you get a rental car, renting a GPS is wasted money – every day there is a fee! Get a GPS before your trip! Make sure the software is up to date.
Travel Guide and a Map of the Region
Don’t Only Count on Your GPS, check the route on the map. Maybe there is something on your route that you’d want to visit. There is a lot of things you want to check. A road trip has to be very well planned. A travel guide and a map will be helpful. Just mark all the things you want to visit.
Turn on the Musik
The distance can be very long, prepare yourself. The time goes by with good music. Sometimes, your radio might not work or you might hate everything that comes on. That’s why I recommend a USB Stick or a CD. The more the better! There’s nothing worse then the same music replaying all the time. You can also order audio books. We got a USB Adapter via Amazon. There are two ports, one for music, the other for charging your phone.
Enough Water or other Liquids
Water. Water. Water. We bought a cooler with water at home and put it in the back of our car. You should always have enough water with you. Save around 1-2 bottles and refill them in case there are no places to find new water or other drinks. Save money and buy enough water ahead!
And Snacks too.
Besides enough water, you should bring enough snacks in your car. You should buy healthy snacks and not those that make you tired. I prefer fruit, nuts or cereal bars. It can happen that there’s no supermarket or a restaurant on the way. It’s like this in Iceland. We drove hundreds of kilometers and we were happy that we had fruits, veggies, drinks, cereal bars, bisquits and salami.
Little Lifesavers
There are other lifesavers you should put in your car. Such as toilet paper, neck cushions, blankets, socks and a hoodie or sweater. Also take a flashlight
