I don’t know why I haven’t posted about this earlier. The most asked question is „Which camera do you use?“. I was asked so many times over the last weeks, that I have to post about it now. I will also post about editing my pictures afterwards but today I want to tell you about my equipment. I also attached a picture as an example to every lens I’m mentioning. You were already able to get an insight in my camera bag in my Shop.
»I’m not a pro photographer & I’m learning-by-doing
These tips are based on my experiences, a pro might do otherwise.
- My Camera
I’ve been using my Canon EOS 70D for one year. I was thinking about getting a 70D or the 7D. This video helped me deciding and I’m really happy with my camera. I was told to never buy the camera as a set/kit, because the kit lenses are crap. That’s why I always buy the body and the lenses separately.
- My Lenses
I’ve gathered different lenses over the years. I’m using nearly every lens. I will tell you about each lens. If you want to start a blog, you don’t have to buy all the equipment. I began taking pictures with the 50mm lens by Canon and I was happy with it. A lot of bloggers use it, but It’s rather inconvenient when travelling. I prefer zoom lenses. I’ve sold the following lenses & bodies over the last couple of years:Canon 18-135mm, Canon 55-250mm, Canon EOS 650D;
Canon 50mm f/1,8
With this compact and versatile lens, you can take great detail pictures. If you take outfit pictures, you can achieve a nice bokeh effect. The Canon 50mm is a great lens, which is also cheap (less than 100 Euro). I can recommend this lens to you.
Canon EF 24-105mm
This is my baby. I always take it with me when travelling. The lens has an optical image stabilizer to balance the exposure control. It’s big, but not too heavy. Nearly 80% of the pictures on my blog are made with this lens. If you click the link, you can also see that this lens is not really low budget. I wouldn’t recommend it to newbies and I wouldn’t have bought it myself. My friend is a photographer and sold it to me for a good price.
Sigma 50mm F1,4
This Sigma Lens is similar to the Canon 50mm f/1.8 – But its quality is better. The bokeh is more intensive and the light intensity is higher. It’s also expensive, but I’m using it really often. All pictures from my Valentinspost and most of the pictures in my Bangkok Grand Palace Posting are made with this lens. Unfortunately it is really heavy. My Canon EF 24-105mm is much lighter.
Canon EF-S 24mm
This pancake lens is really light, the pictures are good and it’s relatively cheap. You can’t use it with full format sensors.
»»Here is a little summary of the positive features of the lenses.

- My Tripod
In the beginning I didn’t want to look stupid when walking around with a tripod. But you learn to deal with it. This is really practical. E.g. when I took the pictures at the geyser in Iceland I would have had to hold up the camera in the cold all the time, if I hadn’t had a tripod. So if you have space in your luggage – take a tripod with you.
Cullmann Tripod
I like taking my tripod with me. In Iceland I used it at Jökulsarlon as well as at the geyser. It’s also good when you try to film the sunrise or the sunset.
Tarion Steadycam
You want to film without the movie getting blurry? Taking professional footage? Maybe you should buy a steadycam. The tripod is decoupled from your camera and you will be able to take great pictures. The price is reasonable too.
- My system camera
Olympus PEN E-PL7
I also take my Olympus PEN E-PL7 with me. It’s light and tiny. There’s always enough space in my bag. The camera takes great pictures and it has 16 Megapixels. The camera also has a high-resolution 3 Inch Display with a touch function, which is great for selfies and to film FMAs. There’s also a WiFi Function. If you prefer a compact camera over a DSLR, you should take the PEN E-PL7. It’s really handy!
- My Action Camera
GoPro Hero3+
I also own a GoPro. I only used it for taking videos. But now I’d rathe use my Olympus. If you like taking pictures with a Fish-Eye Effect, I can recommend the GoPro. It’s also good for snorkeling and diving. Since the camera is tiny, it’s really easy to film while swimming. Unfortunately the camera is very expensive if you have to buy all the accesory. We had to pay around 600-750 Euro.
- My memory cards
SunDisk Ultra 40MB 32 GB
The SanDisk memory card is ideal to take High-Quality pictures & videos with photocameras or camcorders. Class 10 means that the card is fit for Full-HD-Videos (1080p). I have two of these cards.
- My App with remote release
EOS Remote iPhone App
I installed this App right after we bought the camera. If I use it, I can always use the Wifi-Function and have access to my pictures while on the go. That’s cool if I want to post a picture immediately. You can also use your phone as a remote control. EOS Remote is free.
- My card reader
Transcend Card Reader
An item I don’t want to miss anymore is my card reader. I use it with my Mac Notebook and I can’t complain about it.
- My studio light
Walimex Daylight 1000 with Softbox
The lamps weren’t cheap, but it was worth it. Believe me! Especially in fall/winter, when it’s already dark outside. Or if your flat is not as bright. I also use this tripod for these.
- Miscellaneous Accessories
Secondary Battery & Battery handle
I bought a battery handle for our Iceland trip. We were on the go all day and we didn’t want to take the risk of being out of battery. Unfortunately the battery handle is very heavy, but it’s still good. You can also use normal AA batteries.
Lens Hood
To take a good picture, the light hast o reach the cameras sensor. But sometimes the light comes from every angle, the picture might get to bright or you’re getting lens flares you don’t want to have. A lenshood can block the light coming from the side. You’re getting more Contrast, the picture is sharper. It also protects your lens.
Camerastrap & Bag
The camera strap is super practical. While traveling I always put my arm through the strap. I don’t like putting a strap around my neck, because it hurts the neck.
And if you want to put your camera away, than don’t just put it in your handbag. Your camera costs a lot of money and if you invest into a camera, you might as well buy a camera bag for 28 Euro. You can put your camera and other things into the bag.
