One of the most famous attractions in Bangkok is the Grand Palace. You can find my posts about Bangkok HERE. Read them and put Thailand on your bucket list
The tickets for the Grand Palace are not that cheap, but this attraction is worth it. If you don’t see the king’s palace you weren’t really in Bangkok. There are over 100 buildings and it’s about 200.000 m2 big. The main entrance is at the Na Phralan Road. The palace compound consists of 4 parts, the Wat Phra Kaeo Temple, the outer court, the central court and the inner court. The palace was the official residence of the kings of Siam since 1782 and was used until 1925.
The buildings were inspired by Chinese and Malaiian architecture. There’s nothing comparable in Bangkok. The whole palace is in continuous renovation. My highlight was the Wat Phra Kaeo Temple.
The temple has many buildings decorated with gold leafs, colored bricks and inlay mosaics. Huge Yaksha Statues, golden Kinnaris. If you’re on the inside you’re going to be astonished. In the temple there’s a golden alter with a 11m big Smaragd Buddha! Someone told me that the statue is not made of Smaragd, but Jade though.
