I’ve become a fan of a good breakfast! After two weeks not going out for breakfast, it was time to test a new restaurant. We visited MERICA in the center of Bratislava – not more than 15 minutes from my home. Two weeks ago, I was there and took a picture of this fancy restaurant I found online. You may remember it from Facebook and Instagram.

» The Restaurant: old market hall in the industrial design
From the outside, the restaurant looks unspectacular. It’s well situated on a quiet, but pretty location – where the tram also arrives. This was an old market hall, which is now used as a pretty restaurant, which is also really Instagram-friendly (hi, beautiful floor #ihavethisthingswithfloors). It’s bright, modern, industrial style, and cozy. We felt really good and had a good impression.
» The Food: yummy, hearty & Slovakian-Style
We had egg dishes at first and then sweet waffles. Every egg dish is served with toast, fried bacon and hashbrowns (with a lot of chili & onions). The bacon was really crunchy and salty. Simply perfect. The omelette and the sunny-side-ups were really good. The hashbrowns were a little too spicy for me. I liked the combination of potatoes, onions and chili though. Both egg dishes are absolutely recommendable for a price of 6.50 Euro.
Sandra had a caramelized bacon bagel – something special right? The bagel was in the oven for too long and had a slightly brown crust. All in all, the combination of sweet and salty bacon with a poached egg is really yummy and interesting. The dish is a recommendation of the house! Give it a try!
Okay, onto to the ultimate calorie bomb. After the eggs, we wanted something sweet and decided for the banana chocolate Nutella whipped cream waffles and this was the best decision on that day! Note: The waffle is not a square, it’s rectangular and bigger than a normal waffle, so that you can also share it. We were two people sharing and it was totally enough.
» Price & Service: the price is (for slovakian circumstances) OK
The restaurant was really decent for Slovakian circumstances. It could be a little cheaper, but I think it’s more expensive because it has this hipster touch and it’s relatively new. But you’ll sit in a great and pretty restaurant and you get a soda water from a fancy bottle ;-)
